Two Iranians executed in connection with winter protests
Two men found guilty of participating in massive anti-government protests that took place in December and January in the country were hanged in public, Iranian justice announced Tuesday, July 28.
Executions have increased in the country since the start of the war triggered on February 28 by an American-Israeli offensive against Iran and a large number of those executed were condemned for their participation in the demonstrations.
Israeli army says it intercepted drone near Jordanian border
The Israeli army announced that it had intercepted a drone near the border with Jordan and was trying to identify its origin. “The Israeli Air Force recently intercepted a drone in the border region with Jordan,” the army wrote on Telegram, specifying that “the drone did not enter Israeli territory” and that “the origin of the launch is currently under investigation.”
On Monday, two drones had been intercepted near the border, indicated the Israeli army which, after launching jointly with the United States the offensive on Tehran on February 28 which triggered the regional war in the Middle East, did not take part in the last wave of clashes in July.
Washington confirms new talks between Lebanon and Israel
The United States confirmed on Monday the holding of new talks between Israel and Lebanon, in Rome from August 4 to 6, as part of the creation of “pilot zones” with the Lebanese army.
“In Rome, the technical groups will focus on advancing the full implementation of the framework agreement,” a State Department official said on condition of anonymity, citing the expansion of the “pilot zones” process, the resolution of all outstanding border issues and the development of a comprehensive peace and security agreement.
Baghdad announces investigation into drones intercepted in Saudi Arabia
The Iraqi prime minister called for an investigation after neighboring Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted and destroyed several drones coming from Iraq and targeting oil installations, his spokesperson announced in a statement.
Ali al-Zaidi asked “the relevant security authorities to investigate the statements of the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding drones targeting the kingdom from Iraqi territory,” according to the same source.
