The prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis announced Monday July 27 in a press release the closure for six months of the Chanteloup mosque in Aulnay-sous-Bois, which it accuses of promoting “violence” and “promoting acts of terrorism”.
“This closure order was taken on the basis of article L. 227-1 of the internal security code, due to the comments, ideas or theories disseminated in this mosque and on the social networks of imams, which provoke violence, hatred or discrimination, advocate acts of terrorism and provoke their commission,” declared the prefecture.
“Through the sermons of the mosque’s regular imams and their dissemination on social networks but also through the speeches of the occasional speakers it invites, the mosque disseminates a radical Islamist ideology which uses the rhetoric of terrorist organizations, legitimizes jihad and values death as a martyr,” the authorities argued.
