Cinemas worldwide are dedicating their largest screens to the epic drama The Odyssey (2026) to the widest possible audience, but that does not stop some people from consuming the film in an alternative way. Universal Pictures has its hands full with illegal uploads of the drama, which have the potential to generate tens of thousands of views in a short time.

The Odyssey had its best second weekend ever in the US. It is estimated that screenings of Nolan’s thirteenth film grossed around $87 million in three days, $12 million more than The Dark Knight in 2008. As popular as the alternative summer blockbuster is, pirated copies of The Odyssey are in great demand. According to The Hollywood Reporter millions of people saw at least snippets of a film version that circulated Saturday on A second leaked version scored around 50,000 views in two hours before it was taken offline due to a copyright claim.

“We became aware of unauthorized distribution of the film and immediately implemented protocols,” Universal said in response to the leaks. “We take these violations very seriously.” On X, users express their surprise at the circulating copies. The Elon Musk-owned company is known to typically take longer to fulfill takedown requests.
