Far-reaching artificial intelligence is no longer a thing of the future, but a prescient science fiction novel was published in the 1980s in which a hacker uses a hypermodern computer system to express his skills. Apple has taken on the challenge of translating William Gibson’s celebrated work into a futuristic series, and a first teaser has now been unveiled.
Big job
In Neuromancer the resourceful hacker Henry Case is hired for a major job: penetrating cyberspace for the ultimate hack, in search of data that other hackers can only dream of. The first images of this ambitious series invite comparisons with established modern classics such as Blade Runner and The Matrix:
High threshold
For fans who love Gibson’s book, expectations for this Apple series will be particularly high. Careful attempts to make a film adaptation of Neuromancer never seriously got off the ground over the past decades. This usually played a role in the fact that the story world was seen as too abstract, that the realization was too demanding in terms of budget and [later] that the film is not an easy copy of The Matrix could be. Johnny Mnemonic (1995), starring Keanu Reeves, was also based on a story by Gibson and flopped heavily.

Summer of happiness
In the teaser we see Masters of the Air actor Callum Turner in the role of Henry Case. The British pop star married Dua Lipa this summer and was for a while mentioned as a possible successor to Daniel Craig (007). Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (2018–2023)) oversees the production, which stars Peter Sarsgaard and Briana Middleton in additional roles. On January 22, 2027 start the series on Apple TV.
