After films from the 60s and 90s, there is now also a series version Cape Fear (2026– ), the revenge story of a released criminal who seeks retribution for his long stint behind bars. The first two episodes can be seen from today.
Back for retaliation
Spanish veteran Javier Bardem plays Max Cady, a man who ended up in jail for fourteen years after his lawyer withheld a report that could have exonerated him. Tom and Anna Bowden (Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams) met while working on the case and married not long after. Now they live together with their two children and they still stand up for wrongfully convicted people, but Cady quickly sees through that after his release…
Changes
One of the changes compared to the two film adaptations is that Anna is no longer only Tom’s wife, but that she was also involved in Cady’s verdict as a professional. It does not necessarily mean a bigger, but a more important role for the character of Amy Adams, the actress who has already been nominated for an Oscar six times (but has never won). In conversation with Inverse says creator Nick Antosca (A Friend of the Family (2022)) that he consciously took a number of different directions. The remake should be a “nightmare” for people who know the previous films, it sounds.
