Shia LaBeouf will be under the close eye of the authorities for a while. Yesterday (Wednesday, ed.) the Transformers star pleaded guilty to assault at a court hearing. The actor was charged with hitting three people in public in February.
Mardi Gras
The incident involving LaBeouf took place during a celebration of Mardi Gras, a costume party that is understood in the Netherlands as the last night of Carnival. Footage that surfaced online showed the shirtless actor knocking one person to the ground and punching another in the face outside a New Orleans bar. LaBeouf is also said to have made homophobic statements, a claim supported by the officers who arrested him.
Known
At the hearing on Wednesday, the judge determined that LaBeouf will not have to go to prison, but that a probationary period of two years will suffice. If the actor stays out of trouble and away from his victims during that period, the six-month prison term will be permanently waived. LaBeouf will be placed in an alcohol treatment program because he was under the influence at the time of the fight.
Previous accusations
It is not the first time that the Transformersactor is in the news because of misconduct. During the recording of The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019), LaBeouf was previously arrested for public intoxication and was also sentenced to probation. In 2020, he was charged with misconduct and petty theft in LA, and his former girlfriend FKA Twigs (stage name, ed.) alleged that he had sexually and emotionally abused her. The actor played his last major role in the thriller Salvable (2025).
