Michael Johnston enjoyed enormous popularity this year for his role in Obsession (2025). Now he appears to be joining the cast of The Mummy 4 (2027), according to the news from The InSneider.
From Mummy-franchise
The Mummy franchise consists of three films, with a third to be added soon. In the first two films, The Mummy (1999) in The Mummy Returns (2001), the leading roles are played by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Fraser also played a role in it The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), where Weisz was absent. All three films grossed more than $400 million at the worldwide box office.
Fraser and Weisz back as Rick and Evelyn
It was previously confirmed that Fraser and Weisz will return as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell. John Hannah is also back as Jonathan Carnahan. Now it looks like this cast will be joined by Michael Johnston.

Johnston became a household name earlier this year thanks to his starring role in Obsession. The film with a budget of less than a million dollars became a box office success and became one of the highest-grossing films of 2026 so far. This breakthrough means Johnston is now shortlisted for bigger roles.

Theatrical release brought forward
While the cinema release was first planned for May 2028, this one has been postponed 15 October 2027 moved. Plot details are being kept secret for now and Universal has not yet commented on the possible casting choice.
