A septuagenarian died while trying to recover his keys which had fallen into a manhole on Sunday in Alsace, France.
The man would have lifted the grille and slipped his head inside, according to local media Latest News Alsace.
For a reason still unknown, the septuagenarian found himself stuck vertically, head down and legs sticking out of the manhole.
Witnesses reportedly tried to help the man who was screaming for help, but when firefighters finally managed to extricate him from the hole, he was already dead, according to the French media.
An investigation was opened by the Strasbourg police to determine the exact cause of his death.
