The 50% customs tariffs announced by Donald Trump, potentially in effect as of August 19, directly threaten Quebec exporting SMEs. The owner of Glorious Custom, Jean-François Bédard, fears major repercussions on his exports to the United States and is calling for concrete aid from the government.
The company, which specializes in making custom clothing sold in particular to NHL players, is sounding the alarm.
“I think he […] “There has to be something happening for this circus to stop,” said Mr. Bédard on LCN on Sunday.
A $2,000 garment could have $1,000 added in taxes, making its exports to the American market of 330 million consumers virtually uncompetitive.
“With Mr. Trump on the other side, we agree that this is not his first surprise, probably not his last. The rest of us, we are in solution mode, we try to ensure that our customers are not too impacted in terms of costs,” declared the owner of Glorious Custom.
