France will experience a “new heat wave” from Tuesday, with high temperatures unfavorable for fighting fires, Météo France confirmed on Monday July 27. “Severe heat sets in over a large part of the country on Tuesday July 28, with a peak in intensity on Wednesday July 29,” writes the public establishment in an information point.
On Wednesday, “temperatures continue to increase with a peak of intense heat over a large western half. We expect 38°C in Paris and Tours, 36°C in Lyon and Grenoble, and peaks of 40°C in the South-West”, a region plagued by fires in Gironde and Landes.

To characterize it, Météo France relies on the national thermal indicator (ITN), an average of daily air temperature measurements in 30 weather stations spread across the national territory, which must reach or exceed 25.3°C for one day and remain greater than or equal to 23.4°C for at least three days.
