A man suspected of having injured three women on Monday July 27 in Paris using two kitchen knives, two of them seriously, was then quickly arrested, announced Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. at Porte de Clichy, northwest of the capital, the Paris police headquarters said. “Three identified victims were treated by emergency services and transported to hospital,” the police said, without giving further details on the condition of the injured. “An individual with two bladed weapons caused several injuries” and “was quickly arrested,” she added.
According to the Minister of the Interior, the suspect “was arrested by an off-duty police officer from the police headquarters”, whose “courage” he praised. “None” of the three injured women “sees their vital prognosis compromised,” declared Laurent Nuñez at midday, during the report of the council of ministers.
“Two of them are still in absolute emergency, so they are injured quite seriously,” he added. One was hit in the lower back, the other in the abdomen, he said. A third woman was more lightly injured. The three victims are “aged 19, 24 and 36 years,” the minister said.
The suspect “only gave a declarative identity” and “made incoherent comments”, continued Laurent Nuñez, who called for “remaining very careful about the motives of this extremely violent act”.
The national anti-terrorism prosecution indicated that it was under observation at this stage.
