Sony Pictures will almost certainly take care of it Treasure Island. In June it was announced that Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous adventure story would be remade into a film with Ridley Scott at the helm and Hugh Jackman in the leading role. Negotiations with the major studio mean an ambitious worldwide release is within reach.
Early enthusiasm
The director of Gladiator II (2024) decided that he with Treasure Island wanted to get started when he had read the script adaptation by Jack Thorne, the screenwriter of, among others Wonder (2017) in Enola Holmes (2020). Disney adapted the famous story into a film in 1950, and later a version of The Muppets and an animated film (voice role by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) were also released.

Awkward overlap
It will be released this late summer The Dog Stars (2026) also a new film by Scott, but it is distributed by 20th Century Fox. For Treasure Island the director had to look for another studio, because 20th Century Fox is affiliated with Disney. Given the popularity of the Pirates franchise, the studio wanted to avoid any chance of a non-compete clause.
