On March 24, Donald Trump considered that “the war was won” in the Middle East, Iran being “totally defeated”. On April 7, after an agreement for a two-week ceasefire, he celebrated a “total and complete” victory. To list statements of this type would be too long: according to NBC News’ count, the Republican has asserted 32 times that the war was won or almost won since the first attacks on February 28. However, the conflict still lasts. The American president himself conceded this on Tuesday July 21, affirming that the United States had “not finished at all” with Iran, which his army was bombing for the eleventh consecutive night. And with each of them, the bill gets longer.
