
Talking about “decommercialization” as we talk about “deindustrialization”, this is the neologism taken up by a senatorial information report presented on Wednesday July 1, supported by figures. The proportion of unoccupied businesses in France increased from 8.8% in 2017 to 11.6% in 2025. And when they are not empty, the shops sometimes disappear altogether: the share of municipalities with no businesses is 62% today, compared to only 25% in 1980.
