“Extremely hot. » “We’re grilling. » “It’s hell!” » Metaphors of the end of the world punctuate our exclamations. This can be seen in the exit doors of air-conditioned buildings when they let employees go home. Or our bedrooms when the hope of a temperate night disappears when we see the temperature of the room. Moreover, the simple fact of saying “heatwave” sets out a program: in the biblical vocabulary, the equivalent word is “choreb” which applies to lands scorched by heat, from the family of Gehennas of fire where souls are sent to their doom.
