We patiently await the release of Shrek 5 (2027), but that’s not the only film we can expect from the Shrek universe. Some time ago, Eddie Murphy also announced a spin-off about his character (and audience favorite) Donkey! That cinema film has already been given a release date.

After seventeen years, next year it will finally be time for the long-awaited sequel in the iconic animated series Shrek met Shrek 5. However, the well-known and beloved characters from the franchise not only return for the fifth part, but also appear in another brand new project!

DreamWorks made it in Shrekuniverse already has two spin-offs, the Puss in Boots films, but now also comes with a film about Donkey! This crowd favorite, voiced by Eddie Murphy, will get his own cinema film in a few years. Various media are now reporting this Donkeyas the film will be called, will be released on the big screen at the end of June 2028.
‘Funny story’
The spin-off, which was announced some time ago by Murphy himself, tells the story about the background and life of the beloved talking donkey. According to the actor, the spin-off should be a very ‘funny story’. Just a little patience before we can judge that for ourselves!
