In The Union (2024), Mark Wahlberg unwillingly became embroiled in a world of conspiracies and secret agents, but in the newly expected thriller By Any Means (2026), that world is simply its natural habitat. The trailer of the newcomer can now be viewed.
Double role
Wahlberg’s character Greg Scarpa is simultaneously a notorious hitman and an FBI informant, who teams up with a young black FBI agent in the 1960s. The goal is to find out who is behind the murder of some leaders of the civil justice movement in Mississippi (also consider the film Mississippi Burning (1988)). A deadly manhunt follows.
Comparable
The synopsis of this thriller is somewhat reminiscent of that of Judas and the Black Messiah (2021), which revolves around an infiltration of the Black Panther party and is set in the same period. In By Any Means the leading roles are for Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who you may know from Candyman (2021) and the recent Netflix series Man on Fire (2026– ). Director Elegance Bratton was previously responsible for the drama The Inspection (2022).

A notorious mob hitman and a young black FBI agent team up to investigate the 1966 murders of civil rights leaders in Mississippi.
By Any Means will from 10 september will be shown in Dutch theaters.
