The parade of July 14 highlighted, not without brilliance, the awakening of a new strategy desired by the President of the Republic in consultation with the “coalition of the willing”, testifying to a Europe preoccupied by the values of our civilization and attention to ensuring that it is a land of reconciliation at the invitation of its founding fathers.
Let us not shy away from the hope that this opening gives rise to. The presence of Volodymyr Zelensky, refusing to submit to a blind, powerful and tyrannical force, brings hope. During the comments at this parade, these words from General Jean-Marc Vigilant, associate researcher at the Institute of International and Strategic Relations (Iris), specialist in military and defense issues, were recalled: “If it is the armies which win the battles, it is the nations which win the wars. »
A necessary battle
Among these wars, one of them stands out: the fight against misery and its sister poverty. Europe would emerge stronger and find this unity that it struggles to inhabit.
Would it be a dream to one day see marching alongside the soldiers those who fight these infamies, demining the places of impoverishment, of exclusion containing so much distress and dehumanization, that they are already cemeteries? Without saying their names, they are nonetheless spaces of death and social death.
Poverty is an enemy; we must fight it. How better to achieve this than by allowing yourself to be inhabited by generosity; it could be read, during the parade, on the haughty faces of these soldiers. Let us not be surprised, everyone, more or less, was there to agree to give something of themselves, guided by an ideal which means that as the soul rises, the world rises again.
Europe has more than 1.3 million people affected by homelessness. All captives, prisoners of a society that does not know how to recognize them as full humans. Where dignity is violated, the field of a necessary battle has been deserted.
A liberating impulse
Faced with the tragedy of such a situation, the fight to free these captives leads us to emerge from our complicit torpor of indifference. Their liberation will also be ours, to finally understand the tragedy experienced by those who have no recourse, dependent on social services; these, overwhelmed, have no other response than to repeat over and over again “there is no room”. Who can dispute it, but then the only approach – it is that of honor – is to build them.
To achieve this, we must cease, with regard to these victims, these too often repeated charges by which we easily absolve ourselves of our responsibilities. Peace will only be built if, in today’s world, we want, in the same liberation movement, that Ukraine, dramatically attacked by a brutal and narcissistic tyrant, is defended as our vulnerable brothers and sisters should be. The same fight.
Allow me, with these few words, to simply mention this mother, pregnant with a seventh, who lives on the street in Paris with her six children. They have no roof. The child is due to be born at Necker hospital on August 22. Will we leave this baby on the street with his mother and brothers and sisters? May the solidarity of this July 14 continue with a liberating and enthusiastic momentum, putting out the enemy that is poverty. A real and fair fight. He is the one of peace.
