Little Brittany was spending time with the babysitter at Hallandale Beach while her mother, Cristina Lopez, was at work, the TV station reported Local 10 News.
For some unknown reason, she was stuck in the car for at least three hours, while the temperature was 33°C.
The child was rushed to a hospital. She died there shortly after, confirmed the New York Post.
The official cause of his death has not been released. However, children left in a hot vehicle can die within the first 10 minutes, according to the National Weather Service.
Ms. Lopez already knew the sitter, who has not been identified, and never had any problems with her. She now wants “justice” for the death of her daughter.
According to her, the guardian asked her father, possibly suffering from dementia, to watch the child. He allegedly left the little girl in the back of the vehicle from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to the words of Ms. Lopez reported by the New York Postthe police reportedly told her on Tuesday that no prosecution would be initiated against the sitter or her father, since the latter suffered from a “mental illness” and no contract had been concluded with the sitter.
“No decision has yet been made regarding possible prosecutions,” however, the Hallandale Beach Police Department told the American media.
Cristina Lopez has published a GoFundMe page to obtain financial assistance during this ordeal. By the end of Thursday evening, nearly $4,000 US had been raised.
