Tanker hit by projectile near Strait of Hormuz
A tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz region, the British maritime agency UKMTO reported.
“A tanker reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the port side, causing a fire, while sailing south,” the UKMTO wrote in a statement, adding that the incident did not cause any injuries or damage to the environment.
Adoption at first reading of the creation of a commission of inquiry into October 7
The Israeli Parliament approved at first reading a law establishing a commission of inquiry, defended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, into the security failures leading to the attack of October 7, 2023 perpetrated by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. The vote was boycotted by the opposition, which believes that the proposed commission will be under the thumb of the government.
“The principle of this proposed law is to allow in-depth investigations to be carried out, in complete independence, into the events of the (…) massacre of October 7,” specifies an explanatory note attached to the proposed law. This was adopted with 59 votes in favor, out of the 120 seats in the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, with no votes against or abstentions.
Four dead in Israeli strike in southern Lebanon
Four people, including three women, died Monday in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, authorities reported, despite the ceasefire in force between pro-Iranian Hezbollah and Israel. The Israeli army said in a statement that it had identified “four suspects in a vehicle which was approaching the security zone” where it operates in the South, and “carried out a precise strike to eliminate the threat”.
The director of a school, her mother, a foreign domestic worker and a Syrian worker were killed by “an Israeli drone that targeted their vehicle” while returning from a visit to the family home in Nabatiyé al-Fawqa, according to the National Information Agency (ANI, official).
