The royal house published two photos on social networks in which the princess appears.
One shows her sitting on a sofa next to her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, both wearing Norwegian team scarves, watching Norway’s victory against Brazil (2-1), which allowed the country to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time in its history.
In the other, the couple is at the window, watching the jubilant crowd massing around the palace.
“Yesterday turned into a historic evening! “, captioned the Royal House of Norway on Instagram.
She said that the crown princess and the crown prince followed the match from the palace while their two children were in the stands to watch the match live in the United States.
Questioned by AFP, the palace indicated that Mette-Marit had not yet completely left the hospital where she is recovering from her operation.
Aged 52, the princess was diagnosed in 2018 with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis, a disease which causes respiratory difficulties.
Her condition has deteriorated significantly recently and has forced her to reduce her official commitments. In recent weeks, she appeared in public equipped with an oxygen support device.
A single mother when she married Haakon in 2001, Mette-Marit’s worsening health problems coincided with the high-profile trial of her 29-year-old son from a previous relationship.
Marius Borg Høiby was sentenced in June to four years in prison for two rapes and 32 other charges.
According to local media, he appealed.
Added to health problems and legal setbacks are recent revelations by Norwegian media of the friendly ties and sustained correspondence that Mette-Marit maintained with sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein from 2011 to 2014.
The American financier had already been convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor.
