A man was fined 150 euros at Concorde station in Paris for carrying a television on the metro.

However, the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) does not have clear and precise rules concerning this subject, according to information from the Figaro.

A passenger had already been fined for transporting a plant, but the RATP reimbursed her and rewrote its rules.

Since then, any package or baggage that can be transported alone, without disturbing other travelers, is authorized.

Objects that may be dangerous or disturb others, depending on their size, nature or packaging, are however prohibited.

The affair therefore relaunched a discussion on social networks, dividing two camps, according to the French media.

Some consider the sanction absurd: the fine was imposed on a Sunday at 4 p.m., with no real risk of bothering other travelers, and while people are encouraged to abandon their cars, they find themselves penalized when they take the metro.

Others understand the rule and say that carrying a large box on the subway can actually block the corridors and cause a disturbance.

Along the same lines, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) asked its users to be careful with heavy objects in a publication on X, on July 1, 2025 during the annual moving day.

This approaching date risks causing several congestions in the STM metro.
