The dove and the olive tree
Since I became interested in the Middle East, Iran represents an intangible political reality. The regime installed by the 1979 revolution, which ousted the shah and established an Islamic republic, appears immovable. During several trips there, I noticed that many Iranians do not recognize themselves in this oppressive state. But power is held, in large part, by the repression of all dissent.
