The results of the night
Portugal – RD-Congo (1-1) :
Portugal, one of the favorites for the World Cup, was trapped by DR Congo (1-1), Wednesday in Houston, for its entry into the competition. Established from the start, the five-time Golden Ball Cristiano Ronaldo became the second player in history with Lionel Messi to play in six different World Cups.
The Portuguese scored very early through João Neves (1-0, 6th), but then relied too much on their advantage, allowing the Congolese to come back before the break thanks to Yoane Wissa (1-1, 45th + 5). The DRC wins the first point in its history in the World Cup.
England – Croatia (4-2):
For its entry into the 2026 World Cup, England produced an offensive festival by dominating Croatia 4-2, Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, thanks in particular to a double from its striker Harry Kane, now author of 10 goals in the World Cup.
In this repeat of the 2018 semi-final won by the Croatians, Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot (12th), and gave the English the lead again with a header (42nd) after Martin Baturina’s equalizer (36th). While Peter Musa (45th + 5) had allowed Luka Modric’s teammates to get back together before the break, Jude Bellingham (47th) gave the Three Lions the advantage, before Marcus Rashford sealed the result (85th).
Ghana – Panama (1-0) :
Ghana, thanks to a goal scored by Caleb Yirenkyi in added time (90 + 5), won 1-0 at the expense of Panama, Wednesday under the rainy sky of Toronto, during the 2026 World Cup. The Black Stars take second place in Group L behind England, the big favorite, which benefits from a better goal difference after its victory (4-2) against Croatia earlier in Dallas.
Uzbekistan – Colombia (3-1):
Colombia, absent in Qatar in 2022, perfectly negotiated its return to the World Cup on Wednesday evening in Mexico by logically winning 3-1 against Uzbekistan, for which it was the first match in a World Cup.
Led by Luis Diaz, scorer and decisive passer, the Cafeteros take the lead in Group K with three points thanks to this result, benefiting from the poor performance of the Portuguese, who did no better than a 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
