6:30 a.m. – Strait of Hormuz “instantly” reopened

The signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the war in the Middle East means that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened “instantly” and the US blockade of Iranian ports will end “immediately”, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said.

This protocol “will come into force with immediate effect and, as a first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz without delay and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade,” Mr. Sharif wrote on

According to the text of the memorandum of understanding unveiled by the two parties, the Islamic Republic “will make arrangements, using its best efforts, to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships, free of charge for 60 days only”, in the strategic sea route, whose blockage by Tehran since the start of the war has seriously disrupted the world economy.

The essential news of the night

– Donald Trump signed the memorandum of understanding with Iran on Wednesday to end the war in the Middle East, during a dinner in Versailles with Emmanuel Macron. Iran later confirmed that it had also signed the text, remotely. “This agreement marks the failure of the United States. People will read about it and draw their own conclusions,” the speaker of the Iranian Parliament told state television.

– Iran reiterated its intention to charge ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, after a 60-day fee-free period provided for by the memorandum of understanding with the United States, the time to negotiate a final text.

– The strait “will not return to the pre-war situation,” chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in an interview broadcast late Wednesday evening on state television. “Iran has a right of sovereignty over Hormuz and, of course, we will collect a fee for these services,” he added.
