There is a new development in the case surrounding the death of actor James Handy. The 81-year-old actor, known for, among other things Top Gun: Maverick (2022) in Jumanji (1995), was killed earlier this week in a violent incident in Los Angeles. It now appears that the man suspected of this murder must first undergo a mental health examination before the criminal case can proceed.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has officially charged 44-year-old Michael Ray Gledhill with murder. According to the indictment, he allegedly killed Handy with premeditation on June 3. If convicted, Gledhill faces a prison sentence of 26 years to life.
The son of man
However, during the hearing on Friday, the criminal case was temporarily halted after concerns were raised about the suspect’s mental state. A judge has therefore ruled that Gledhill must appear on June 22 for a so-called competency hearing, which will examine whether he is mentally fit to stand trial. Gledhill turned himself in to the police. He allegedly approached officers and told them they were looking for him. He also allegedly said during a 911 call, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
