These places where God “returned”

At first glance, nothing seems to be missing from the pious sepia image: the bells are ringing, the altar boys are running around, the inhabitants are meeting. To the right of the altar, Notre-Dame-des-Fontaines, patron saint of the place, watches over, a smiling child Jesus in her arms. At the back of the church, ten banners bearing the effigy of saints or the Virgin await the procession which will follow the mass.
