9:38 a.m. – US-Saudi strikes in Iraq leave at least 20 dead
US-Saudi strikes in Iraq have killed at least 20 members of a former paramilitary alliance that includes pro-Iranian groups, it said.
Hachd al-Shaabi, an alliance now integrated into the Iraqi armed forces, indicated that at least 20 fighters were “martyred and 32 wounded, according to a provisional report”, in these strikes against their bases in seven Iraqi provinces.
7:46 a.m. – At least 10 dead in strikes
At least ten members of a former coalition of pro-Iranian Iraqi paramilitaries, integrated into the army, were killed in American-Saudi strikes, said two sources within Hachd al-Chaabi.
The strikes targeted Hachd al-Shaabi positions “across several provinces”, but the deadliest hit that of Nineveh, in northern Iraq, and left 10 dead, an official said, indicating that the toll was likely to rise.
7:38 a.m. – Jordanian army says it shot down five missiles
Jordan’s military said it shot down five Iranian missiles, as clashes between Iran and the United States resumed after a brief lull.
“Air defenses this morning neutralized five missiles coming from Iran and targeting the territory of the kingdom,” the Jordanian army spokesperson said in a statement, adding that the missiles had been “intercepted and shot down”.
7:33 a.m. – Saudi Arabia says it attacked pro-Iranian “militias”
Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the United States, attacked “terrorist militias loyal to Iran” in Iraq, linked to recent strikes against its oil installations, the defense ministry announced.
“The Saudi armed forces, in coordination with the American Central Command, launched today (…) targeted strikes against objectives belonging to these militias present on Iraqi territory and linked to attacks against the Kingdom’s oil installations,” the ministry wrote in a press release.
7:30 a.m. – Saudi and US strikes in Iraq
The American army announced that it had carried out strikes in Iraq with the Saudi armed forces against “terrorists supported by Iran”.
“American and Saudi warplanes struck several terrorist logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq,” wrote the American military Command for the Middle East (Centcom), warning Iran and its allied “terrorist” groups to cease their attacks or face a new American response.
