The United States left a UN Security Council meeting on Monday July 27 when the French ambassador spoke to denounce “hypocritical” comments from France which compared the United States to North Korea and Russia in connection with a vote related to human rights, said the American representative.
“A member of this Council plays moral indignation and claims to give lessons to everyone on all subjects, whether concerning the conflict which we are still discussing today (Ukraine, Editor’s note), or questions linked to peace and security, such as human rights. This is why we came out during France’s intervention,” declared Dan Negrea, deputy American ambassador, denouncing a “tiring hypocritical posture”.
On Friday, the United States was one of ten countries to vote in the General Assembly against the renewal of the mandate of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, along with North Korea, Russia, Nicaragua and Mali.
“The United States was once a model for human rights. This is no longer the case. Today, they find themselves alongside North Korea, Nicaragua, Mali and Russia. Isolated. And the world no longer listens to them,” the French mission to the United Nations in Geneva posted on X, in English.
