Donald Trump warned Russia and China on Friday against any arms deliveries to Iran, while claiming to trust Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin when they deny doing so.

“Two major nations often cited in the Iranian context are not taking part, in my opinion. If they did, it would be very bad for them, certainly not in their interest,” he wrote on Truth Social.

This speech comes as Washington is carrying out investigations into potential transmissions of information by Russia and China to Iran, in the wake of a series of strikes targeting American bases in the Middle East.
Trump reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him that he did not wish to arm Iran during their meeting in May: “Given our relations, I take his word for it. »

The American president specified that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had made him a similar promise, despite the war in Ukraine.
“He understands that I do not sell weapons to Ukraine, but to NATO countries. They pay the cost price, and as to how these weapons are redistributed, I don’t know,” he said.
Trump has regularly adopted a more measured tone towards Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin than towards the United States’ own allies, justifying this posture by the need to respect the leaders of major world powers.
