The production tells the shocking true story of Michelle Hadley, who was wrongfully imprisoned for 88 days after being framed by her ex and his new wife. However, according to Hadley, the documentary is about much more than just her lawsuit.

In an interview with People, Hadley says that she no longer sees herself as a victim. She hopes that the Netflix documentary is mainly seen as a story about domestic violence and psychological manipulation. According to Hadley, her relationship with former US Marshal Ian Diaz started as a fairytale, but the fairytale slowly turned into a pattern of control and intimidation. She tells how it went step by step, how he carefully started to test her limits and continued to stretch those limits. Hadley quickly wanted to end the relationship, but Diaz did not allow that. He allegedly threatened to call the police, which left Hadley feeling like she had nowhere to go.
A warning
The fact that the documentary is doing great in no time shows that there is a lot of interest in Hadley’s story. However, she hopes that people see this documentary not just as true crime entertainment, but also as a serious warning. “I hope women recognize the signs before it’s too late.”
