The deputy mayor of Bordeaux, Ludovic Bousquet, has been welcoming victims to the Exhibition Center since three in the morning. On Friday July 24, shortly before midnight, the prefect Sophie Brocas announced that the fire, which has been ravaging the Gironde for two days, was heading towards the metropolis of Bordeaux. She told eight neighboring municipalities to prepare to evacuate: Sainte-Hélène, Salaunes, Lanton, Audenge, Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, Saint-Aubin, Saint-Jean-d’Illiac and Martignas-sur-Jalles. They were joined later by others, including Mérignac (the extra ring road part only), which hosts the regional airport.
