Tadej Pogacar, yellow jersey on his shoulders, won the 19th stage of the Tour de France on Friday July 24 at the top of Alpe d’Huez to further consolidate his lead two days before the final arrival in Paris.

In the middle of a huge crowd, the Slovenian erased a delay of 3 minutes 30 at the foot of the final climb to swallow up the breakaways one by one and sign his 26th stage victory in the Grande Boucle, his first at Alpe d’Huez.
He beat the Frenchman Lenny Martinez and the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, who observed each other too much during the ascent, by 6 and 9 seconds respectively thanks to a violent acceleration with the red flame.

Saturday’s stage
For the penultimate stage before the finish of the Tour, the riders will face the largest mountain stage over nearly 171 km, from Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez. “The list of climbs is already dizzying: after climbing the Col de la Croix de Fer, you will have to tackle the Télégraphe and the roof of the Tour, the Galibier. Then the climb into the Isère resort will be via a road only used in 2013 in the direction of descent, passing through the Col de Sarenne,” comments Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France.
