Johnny Depp has landed his biggest role in years with Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol (2026). In this dark version of Charles Dickens’ Christmas story A Christmas Carol plays the actor, who years ago came under fire for a lawsuit with Amber Heard, the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge. Paramount has shared the very first trailer.

Johnny Depp played Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow and the Mad Hatter; all roles for which the actor is still praised today. His work is all referenced in the first trailer of Ebenezera retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The first images show a dark side of the story we know. Depp’s Ebenezer again meets ghosts from the past, present and future, but in Ebenzer they get a spooky edge. “It’s good to be back,” the actor concludes at the end of the trailer.
Cast and director
Benzerthe new one Christmas Carolfilm, is the work of Ti West. He previously directed horror films MaXXXine (2024), Pearl (2022) in X (2022). The cast of the dark Christmas film is supplemented by many other well-known names. We see Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, Tramell Tillman, Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley and Andrea Riseborough.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol (2026)

At the cinema
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long for the release of Dickens’ new retelling. Ebenezer will be released in cinemas on November 12 this year. To promote his latest film, Depp is also attending San Diego Comic Con. There he appeared in costume and therefore fully in his role as Scrooge. The first poster has also now been shared.
