Squid Game (2021–2025) put South Korean series on the map worldwide and opened the door for a stream of new productions on Netflix. Many subscribers still don’t seem to get enough of that. Since last week too The East Palace (2026) on the streaming service and this mysterious fantasy series is an immediate hit. The series even has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The palace in danger
The East Palace is a historical fantasy series set during the Joseon Dynasty. The story combines mystery, horror and supernatural elements and centers on Gu Cheon, a demon hunter who can travel between our world and the world of ghosts. He does everything he can to track down and chase away evil spirits. We also follow Saeng-gang. She has a special gift, she hears the voices of the deceased and can communicate with them. When terrifying mysteries threaten the royal palace, the two are called to court. Together they try to find out the cause behind the incidents. In the meantime, however, they become increasingly entangled in the hidden secrets, political intrigues and age-old curses that surround the palace.
Miniseries
Netflix has eight episodes in totalThe East Palace ordered, all of which can be binged immediately. Because it is a miniseries, there is currently no second season planned.
