The fire raging in Gironde, in the southwest of France, has already “destroyed” more than 12,500 hectares of forest and required the evacuation of 44,000 people in two days, local authorities announced Friday afternoon.

“The weather conditions remain unfavorable with wind gusts expected up to 80 km/h and dry storms which could break out locally,” underlined the Gironde prefecture in its latest situation update.
