A minor, believed to have been born in 2009 in Morocco, was charged with the rape of an 80-year-old woman whom he approached in the street in Rennes, in western France, the prosecution announced on Thursday.
The victim filed a complaint a few days after her attack, at the beginning of July.
“The use of video surveillance images as well as DNA analyzes made it possible to identify an individual who was born in 2009 in Morocco,” specifies the public prosecutor of Rennes, Frédéric Teillet, in a press release.
This “unaccompanied minor” was arrested on Tuesday and contested the rape of the octogenarian. “Found in possession of cocaine packaged for resale”, he said he arrived in France a few months ago and sold narcotics in the city center of Rennes, according to the prosecution.
A piece of jewelry stolen from the victim on the evening of the attack was found at her home during a search.
The minor was indicted for rape of a vulnerable person and theft, then placed in pre-trial detention. He is the subject of a separate procedure for possession of narcotics.
