By coming to the tomb early in the morning, Mary Magdalene demonstrates her fidelity to Jesus even after his death. Coming in tears, overcome by many feelings (sadness, anguish, confusion), she returns to the peace and tranquility of knowing that Christ is Alive. “I have seen the Lord!” » It is in these words that she announces to the disciples her meeting with the resurrected one. She tells them what the Lord said to her and how she recognized him when his name was called. By appearing to her at the tomb, Jesus makes her the first missionary of his resurrection.
Therefore, the Church invites us to celebrate Mary Magdalene as a missionary model. Like her, we just need to “turn around” to listen to the voice of the Lord. Christ calls everyone by name. In 2016, Pope Francis elevated the celebration of the memory of Mary Magdalene to the status of a holiday so that it could be more “recognized by the faithful of this time as a model of service for women in the Church.” Through her intercession, let us pray for all women in the Church and ask the Lord that their voice be heard more and more in our society prey to a harmful masculinism which unfortunately does not spare the Church.
