The trial of Cédric Jubillar for the murder of his wife Delphine Aussaguel, scheduled for September, was postponed by the president of the Haute-Garonne Assize Court due to the continuation of the investigation after the confessions of the accused, and should be held in the first half of 2027, the Toulouse Court of Appeal indicated on Tuesday July 21.

At the end of a meeting at the Toulouse courthouse with all the parties, “the president decided, taking into account the time necessary for the completion of the actions remaining to be undertaken, for the peaceful conduct of the investigation and respect for adversarial proceedings, to order the postponement of the hearing”, it was specified in a press release.

After five and a half years of silence and denials, Cédric Jubillar caused a legal thunderclap by recognizing, first on July 6 in a letter, then on July 15 in front of investigators, “being at the origin of the death of Delphine Aussaguel”, according to his lawyers Mes Guy and Pierre Debuisson.

His wife, Delphine Aussaguel, a 33-year-old nurse, disappeared on the night of December 15 to 16, 2020, without her body ever being found. Despite the absence of evidence or confessions at the time, Cédric Jubillar, a 38-year-old painter and plasterer, was sentenced in October to 30 years of criminal imprisonment. He is now aware of having committed “an abominable act”, declared one of his lawyers, Pierre Debuisson.

Bones found

After his confession, Cédric Jubillar told investigators that he had hidden his wife’s body on the edge of a field about ten kilometers from their home in Cagnac-les-Mines, near Albi. Excavations led to the discovery of bones, the analysis of which confirmed that they belonged to the missing woman.

The postponement of the trial, around which there was “consensus” during Tuesday’s meeting according to the lawyer for the couple’s children, Me Marika Chmani, will make it possible to carry out “investigations (and) personality assessments, in view of Cédric Jubillar’s new position on the facts”, also declared after the postponement Me Laurent de Caunes, lawyer for the brothers and sister of the missing person.

“As part of this referral, it can already be indicated that the appeal trial of Cédric Jubillar should be able to be held during the first half of 2027,” specify the Toulouse magistrates in their press release.
