9:40 a.m. – The Lebanese president on his way to Washington
The Lebanese president flew Saturday morning from Beirut to Washington, where a meeting with Donald Trump is scheduled for Tuesday July 21, according to a press release from the presidency. This trip comes after talks between Lebanon and Israel, concluded on Wednesday in Rome.
Joseph Aoun must also discuss “with several American officials the situation in Lebanon and the means of consolidating the ceasefire”, particularly in the south, as well as “Israel’s withdrawal from the Lebanese regions it occupies”.
8:45 a.m. – Bahrain says it repelled further Iranian attacks
Bahrain’s military announced Saturday that its air defenses had intercepted several Iranian attacks, with an AFP journalist in Manama hearing several explosions in the morning.
“Air defense systems of the Bahrain Defense Force intercepted and destroyed several treacherous Iranian air attacks on Saturday,” the army said in a statement, after warning sirens sounded four times since dawn.
8:20 a.m. – In Kuwait, a second power and desalination plant was attacked
Kuwait announced on Saturday that a second power and water desalination plant had been attacked by Iran, causing a fire and the shutdown of several production units, the day after a similar attack on another plant which also caused damage.
In a press release, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy specifies that this attack, carried out “as part of the odious Iranian aggression”, caused “a fire in one of the components of the plant, which required preventive operating measures”.
