“Iran continues its systematic hostile policy through its criminal attacks targeting civilians,” the Bahraini army said in a statement, claiming to have “intercepted and destroyed several air attacks”.
Air warning sirens sounded overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in Manama, the kingdom’s capital, where explosions were heard, an AFP journalist reported.
The Kuwaiti general staff also indicated during the night that they had responded to “hostile drone attacks” from Iran. He said the explosions heard were the result of aerial interceptions.
Iranian forces announced they had targeted “radar systems, a Patriot air defense system and fuel storage sites” at Ali al-Salem air base in Kuwait, as well as US military installations at Sheikh Isa air base in Bahrain.
Tehran has carried out almost daily attacks in these two Gulf countries since the resumption of hostilities on July 7 with the United States, claiming to target American military interests.
The Bahraini and Kuwaiti authorities, however, accuse their neighbor of also targeting civilian sites.
On Sunday, Kuwait said three border crossings and an offshore oil platform had been targeted, without specifying their origin.
The confrontation resumed after attacks on ships in the Gulf, blamed on Iran. The strikes carried out since then are unprecedented in the Middle East since the ceasefire of April 8.
