The French Parliament voted definitively on Wednesday in favor of the bill establishing a right to “assisted dying”, opening the possibility for certain patients suffering from serious illnesses to obtain, under strict conditions, the administration of a lethal substance.
To make this commitment by Emmanuel Macron, rejected several times, a reality, the government granted the last word to the National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament, which approved the text by 291 votes to 241, in front of the supporters and opponents of the project, gathered in the stands.
The French president thanked the parliamentarians for their “constructive and respectful debate”.
