
June 2026 was the deadliest month for civilians since April 2022
The month of June 2026 was the deadliest for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022, after more than four years of Russian invasion, according to a report published Tuesday by the UN.
“After the sharp increase recorded in May, the number of civilian casualties continued to increase, reaching the highest total number of civilians killed and injured since April 2022,” said the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine in a press release, specifying that “at least 293 civilians were killed and 1,990 injured in Ukraine” for the month of June.
Series of explosions heard in kyiv after missile alert
A series of explosions were heard shortly after midnight in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday, a journalist noted, after the air force warned that several missiles were approaching.
“Air defense systems are in action in the capital. The enemy is attacking kyiv with ballistic missiles,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.
European reinsurance force to carry out exercises in “neighboring countries”
The multinational force intended to deploy in Ukraine once the weapons have fallen silent will begin training in “neighboring countries” in the “coming months”, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday.
“We decided today on the exercises which will be held in the coming months (..) They will be deployed in Ukraine’s neighboring countries to validate our deployment plans and demonstrate that we are ready, determined and credible,” he said after a meeting of the “coalition of the willing” in Paris.
