Thursday July 9, after months of internal procrastination, activists of the Socialist Party (PS) decided to nominate their presidential candidate through a primary where only members of the party and of Place publique, Raphaël Glucksmann’s formation, will be able to vote. This choice amounts to a defeat for the first secretary, Olivier Faure, who had proposed this same internal primary, but with a larger electorate, open to the entire left. In his option, Olivier Faure wanted the winner to then participate in a unified primary of the left outside the LFI with Les Écologists and the former Insoumis Clémentine Autain and François Ruffin.
