“Le Feuilleton d’Hermès”, three new episodes
Maïa had lain down in the shade of a large sycamore to take a little rest. But his head, filled with the events of the last few days, refused to give in to sleep. She saw herself again, watching for the door, hoping to see this long-absent father appear, already gone. The days passed, Atlas did not return. Maïa ends up realizing the facts: her father will not come back. Deceived by Herakles claiming to need to place a cushion in his neck to better hold the sky, he had agreed to carry the celestial vault on his shoulders again for a few moments. Naturally Herakles took the opportunity to flee, taking away the three golden apples of the Hesperides. And Atlas was once again crushed under his burden, for eternity. When they heard the news, her mother and sisters burst into tears. Maïa kept her eyes dry. But enormous anger was brewing inside her. Anger at her father’s stupidity, anger at the sterile lamentations of women, anger at this stifling life to which she felt condemned. No, she didn’t need to wait any longer. Atlas would never return. His life had to begin, far from his family.
