
The announcement comes less than a year after his death by drowning, on November 17, 2025, off a Normandy beach. In a press release published Friday July 10, the Salesians of Don Bosco and the family of Jean-Marie Petitclerc explain that they have commissioned an independent commission of inquiry. It intervenes “following the circumstances which led Jean-Marie Petitclerc to kill himself”. Its objective is to examine the journey of the priest, convicted a month before his death for “voyeurism” – facts he contested and a verdict he appealed.
