Children playing without risk on the swings in the square in the town of Cuers (Var) between noon and 2 p.m. during this heatwave week? It’s hard to believe it. However, this is what Jean-Jacques Roux, general director of city services, observed. By what miracle? To shelter the play area, the city installed shade structures, these large fabric canvases. “During the day, it is often modest families housed in thermal kettles who go there or children from the daycare center,” he describes. Thanks to this device, the ground temperature can decrease by around 25°C according to its readings, falling from 55 to 30°C.
