A 41-year-old woman was shot and killed Thursday at her home by her ex-partner while she called the police in Champforgeuil, in east-central France, a police source told AFP.
The man, aged 59 and known to the courts, became a prisoner in a police station, according to the same source. He was immediately arrested.
On the line with the police on 17, the victim was screaming that she was in danger because her ex was next to her and officials could hear sounds of firearms being handled. Then a neighbor heard gunshots and in turn notified the police.
The woman was found dead with at least one gunshot to the head, according to the same source.
One hundred and seven women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse in 2024, compared to 96 in 2023, an increase of 11%, according to the latest data from the Interministerial Mission for the Protection of Women (MIPROF).
