An editorial event
Twenty years after the publication of the Feuilleton d’Hermès, Greek mythology in 100 episodes by Bayard Jeunesse, Murielle Szac returns to the universe that made her successful with a new text, imagined for the readers of La Croix L’Hebdo. In three episodes, the author chooses to go back through history to tell what precedes the birth of the famous messenger of the gods. The story features Maïa, a young Titanide steeped in doubt and thirsting for independence. Between personal aspirations and mythological destiny, this heroine offers a look at the origins of the emblematic character imagined by Murielle Szac.
A summer under the sign of mythology
This original creation finds its place within an issue of La Croix L’Hebdo devoted more broadly to the unalterable success of Greek mythology among all generations. An issue on newsstands from July 9 and available for sale until the end of August. In addition, throughout the summer, La Croix L’Hebdo will offer its readers the opportunity to rediscover the first episodes of the Feuilleton d’Hermès. This summer program is part of the magazine’s desire to bring to life the pleasure of long-term storytelling and to offer reading to share with the family.
A classic of children’s literature
Published in 2006 by Bayard Jeunesse, Le Feuilleton d’Hermès has become a reference for introduction to Greek mythology. Thanks to its form and accessible writing, the work has won over several generations of readers, families, teachers and book mediators. Sold in 500,000 copies and translated into many languages, it gave birth to a collection that has become essential, including Le Feuilleton d’Ulysses, Le Feuilleton de Theseus and Le Feuilleton d’Artemis followed by the Feuilleton de Tzippora, a biblical story in one hundred episodes, and the Feuilleton of the games of Olympia. A special 20-year collector’s edition was also released this year (from 5 years / €22.90 / 260 pages). The works are today widely used in schools, libraries and media libraries to discover the great founding stories of mythology and have also been adapted by Bayard Jeunesse into an audio book, read by the author, and into trips for families to meet the Greek gods and heroes.
Murielle Szac was born in 1964, in Lyon. Hungry for words, she became an author, editor and collection director. Long editor-in-chief of several Bayard children’s magazines, she has published more than twenty children’s books. For twenty years, she has been the author behind the successful collection “The Feuilletons of Mythology” at Bayard Jeunesse, among which we find Le Feuilleton d’Hermès, Le Feuilleton de Thésée and Le Feuilleton d’Ulysse. She thus plunged into the heart of myths, on a long journey going back to the origins of the world and of men to better illuminate our present. In 2021, his book Immense are their wings won the prestigious Bologna Ragazzi Award for poetry from the Bologna International Children’s Book Fair. Her first novel intended for an adult audience, Eleftheria, was published in August 2022. If we had to remember only one common thread from her work it would be this: transmission. To choose who you are, you have to know where you come from.
