
Dominique Le Fur comes every week to collect his mail. His house was number 178. But the staircase with its crooked steps now leads to a vast field of ruins. Two charred walls, held together by trestles, rubble, ashes and a rusty iron frame twisted by the heat: this is what remains of the pretty building with a view of the sea and the Friuli islands in which this 74-year-old retired architect had lived since 1989.
